The right of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children has been recognized and upheld for centuries. But there are dark clouds on the horizon.
Today parental rights are coming under assault from federal judges who deny or refuse to recognize these rights. Adding further danger to the child-parent relationship, international law seeking to undermine the parental role is advancing on the horizon. The cases in the US that were used as examples are perfect examples of why those of us who have our children in school have chosen CHRISTIAN School. We put our children in Christian school, particularly Reformed schools, to protect them from the world, too. Both cases talked about counselors at school encouraging children to contact CPS....for things that our Christian communities would never encourage children to. I would love to be a fly on the wall if Clayton went to his teacher (a chaplain's wife!) and said he was being forced to go to church too much! ;) Chris once told me we were "brain-washing" him. My response, was "Of course we are. We are brain-washing you with the truth! That is our job, mandated by God, as parents!" --To "instruct [them],as soon as they are able to understand, in the aforesaid doctrine.....to the utmost of [our] power"! (baptism) Sounds like brain-washing to me, huh --?
Good article links....we never think about that kind of stuff until it happens close to home. Then it is like living in an altered reality. Augh! I can't imagine.
